Genie+ a paid skip the line service that started in 2021 is now officially gone as of July 23rd, 2024. It has been replaced with a system called Lightning Lane Multi-Pass and Lightning Lane Single-Pass.
Genie+ could be confusing for some guests, with some strange rules about booking Genie+ Lanes, and the naming convention was weird, with Genie+ giving you Lightning Lane access, and Individual Lightning Lane A La Carte giving you access to the "best" rides in the park. Also, having to wake up at 7am the day of to book your first lightning lanes was a lot.
Lightning Lane Multi-pass and Single-Pass are here to make all of our lives simpler. These systems are still paid, but they bring back some much loved pieces of FastPass+, the free skip-the-line system that was implemented before Genie+.
Exciting Thing #1
Disney Hotel guests can book their Lightning Lanes for their entire trip up to 7 days before they go to Disney World and non-Disney hotel guests can book up to 3 days beforehand, they still need to wake up at 7am on that day but I like the fact that it isn't day of.
Note
You can only book 3 rides per day ahead of time, in your first park of the day (if you are planning on park-hopping you can start booking rides in the second park once you go on your first ride in the first park). They also having a tier system where you can only book one ride in Tier A and 2 rides in Tier B, but once you go on your first ride of the day you can book whatever rides you want.
Exciting Thing #2
You can always have 3 rides booked, you don't have to wait some arbitrary about of time to book your next ride. Once you scan into a Lightning Lane, you can add another ride to your booked rides, this makes it easier to get more Lightning Lanes throughout the day.
Exciting Thing #3
Lightning Lane Single-Pass basically hasn't changed from what it was when it was called Individual Lightning Lane a La Carte. You can book up to 2 Single-Pass Lightning Lanes a day and each has its own price-tag. These Single-Passes get you into the Lightning Lane of some of the best rides in the Disney Parks.
Not so Exciting Thing
Lightning Lane Multi-Pass and Single-Pass come at a steep price, especially if you are coming with a whole family. The price of the Passes are per person per day so the price can get really high depending on when you plan on going to the parks. This price is also park based and day based, so it fluctuates throughout the year, busier times of year and of the week will be more money, while less busy times will be less money. Also Magic Kingdom will most likely be the most expensive while Animal Kingdom will be the least expensive. Keep an eye on the prices and keep in mind that you may not need a Pass in every park.
Suggestions
Lightning Lane Multi-Pass can be used effectively in Magic Kingdom and Disney's Hollywood Studios, you may not need it on your Animal Kingdom or EPCOT days.
Try to figure out what rides you want to go on before you get to the parks to make sure the price of the Passes are worthwhile.
You do not have to pay for everyone in your party to get a Multi-Pass or Single-Pass if you don't think they will want to ride most of the rides.
If you really hate lines, just go all in on Multi-Pass and Single-Pass.
