Disney is a very family friendly theme park but there are definitely still rides for the Thrill-Seekers. Keep in mind todays rankings are based on how thrilling the ride is not my personal love of a ride.
There are 8 Roller-coasters in Disney World.
8. Seven Dwarves Mine Train
Seven Dwarves Mine Train is a great ride. Its super smooth because the cars rock as you go alone the track, but it is also super short. There are a lot more story elements than thrill, and one big drop. It is fun but not too thrilling. If you really like Snow White and the Seven Dwarves and/or pretty chill roller coasters, this one is a must do.
7. Big Thunder Mountain Railroad
Big Thunder Mountain Railroad is one of my favorite roller coasters in Disney World but compared to the other coasters, it doesn't rank too high on the thrill meter. It is a very long coaster, that has mostly small hills and lots of curves. It feels like you are going pretty fast. There are no giant hills, and it can feel rickety at times. I think everyone should ride this ride at least once.
6. Slinky Dog Dash
Slinky Dog Dash is pretty chill compared to the rest of the coasters on the list. It does have 2 launches and its first drop is relatively big. There are a lot of small hills at the end that make the ride feel like a slinky, but the most thrilling part of Slinky Dog Dash are the launches. Some people may find it more thrilling than others, but to me it is lower on the thrill meter. I do suggest riding it if you love launching.
5. Space Mountain
I think Space Mountain is pretty thrilling. It is pretty old so it can feel rather rickety at times. The fact that it is in the dark adds a lot to its thrill factor. There are no giant drops in this ride, but the small drops and turns happens to quickly, sometimes you feel like you're going to fly away. This ride is a classic in Magic Kingdom, and I think everyone should give it a try, unless you are afraid of the dark.
4. Tron Lightcycle/Run
Tron Lightcycle/Run is a step up from Space Mountain. You start the ride with a launch instead of a lift hill, which makes it more thrilling. It is an indoor/outdoor coaster, so the first launch launches you outside and then you enter a dark building with the lights mostly coming from the lightcycle ride vehicles. The ride vehicle also makes this ride more thrilling, because it is shaped like a motorcycle and you have to lean over to ride it. They do provide a regular seat if your body does not like the position of the lightcycle seats. I can't wait until this ride gets a standby queue because paying for Lightning Lane Single Pass can be a lot of money and getting a spot in the virtual queue can be hard.
3. Expedition Everest: Legend of the Forbidden Mountain
I find this ride to be very thrilling. There are a couple of large drops and the largest is backwards. You fly backwards so fast into the dark that it feels like you are going upside but you do not. After you are flung backwards you are then flung forwards down another large hill. The backwards drop puts this high up on my thrill meter. I think everyone should try this at least once.
2. Rock 'n' Roller Coaster Starring Aerosmith
This is the ride for the true thrill-seekers. As of 9/2/24 it is the only roller-coaster that goes upside down in Disney World. It doesn't just go upside down once but multiple times. It also is a launch coaster and immediately launches you into an upside portion. So if you like high thrill and going upside a lot in the dark, this is the ride for you. I am not one of those people, I went on it once and I never need to do it again.
1. Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind
This ride is possibly my favorite ride in the park. It doesn't go upside or have really big drops but the ride vehicles can turn 360 around. They don't regularly do the full spin during the ride, but there are moments when they do. This ride also launches you backwards and then slowly rotates you forwards. It is pretty fast and also inside in slightly dark show spaces. It has a lot of story elements and plays 80s music as you enjoy your cosmic ride. I found it very thrilling and exciting and would definitely ride again.
