This post is all about the top 5 attractions at Magic Kingdom and I realize there are many ways to look at this, today I will go through my Top 5 attractions and the top attraction for families with little kids.

My Top 5 Attractions at Magic Kingdom You Can't Miss

Number 5: TRON Lightcycle / Run

I have only been on TRON once, so that is why it is my number 5, but it is an experience I will never forget. TRON is a thrilling rollercoaster that launches into the light of day and then it goes back into a dark interior where you "race" the other team. There are a lot of visual effects that happen and it really just swoops back and forth, no upside down. The ride vehicles make you sit as if you are on a motorcycle/lightcycle, but they do offer a regular seat at the back of some of their ride vehicles for people that feel uncomfortable in the motorcycle seats or have a disability.

The queue is also very thematic and the way they bring you into the TRON universe is very exciting. I will not go into further detail on this just in case someone has not rode it yet and wants to be surprised.

I was able to ride this coaster solo the first time I rode it and it was an experience like nothing I had had before. I highly recommend this rollercoaster, I don't usually enjoy things that are too thrilling and this ride was just right for me.

Number 4: Space Mountain

This is another thrilling roller coaster in the dark. It is one of the parks icons. Space Mountain is only 6 feet shorter than Cinderella so the façade really stands out. This coaster uses lift hills. The entire coaster is in the dark, it can feel a little rickety and jumpy, and you never know which way you are going to turn or drop next. Children might find this ride a little scary because of the darkness, but the thrill level is just right for people looking for a slight thrill but nothing too thrilling.

The theme of Space Mountain is fun. There are space effects throughout the ride, like shooting off into hyperspace. I can't imagine going to Disney World and not getting on this ride at least once.

Number 3: Big Thunder Mountain Railroad

A thrilling rollercoaster set in the wild west. This coaster seems fast and has a lot of ups and downs, no upside downs. This rollercoaster uses lift hills to get you to the top of the hills. There are no giant drops but this is one of the longest rollercoasters I have ever been on at 3.5 minutes long.

The scenery you fly through on the ride is very thematic, there are animals and buildings, rocks and "explosives". Even the queue is themed to the wild west and if you look for the orangey rock mountains in Frontierland, you'll be on your way towards this ride.

This is another ride that I cannot imagine going to Disney World and not riding.

Number 2: Haunted Mansion

I am not much of a thrill seeker and I love spooky things so this ride is just right. Haunted Mansion is an omni-mover, which means that its ride vehicles never stop moving so it can accommodate a lot of people at the same time. If the ride vehicle ever stops or slows it is usually to let on a rider that needs to be transferred from a ECV or wheelchair.

Haunted Mansion takes you through a mansion that is haunted by 999 happy haunts. There is a spooky voice that narrates the entire tour of the house, and there are a lot of great effects used, such as pepper's ghost technique, which uses light and reflections to make things seem ghostly.

The queue is fun with some elements you can play around with and the room that brings you into the ride area is pretty great, is the room stretching?

There are some great scenes, like a birthday party, and the whole graveyard scene with the theme song playing throughout, Madam Leota's head floating in a magic ball while musical instruments play, and the hitchhiking ghosts joining you in your ride vehicle.

This ride may be scary for younger riders, but I think it is the right mix of chill and spooky. This is a definitely must do for me.

Number 1 Mickey's Philharmagic

I am a big fan of music, Disney and 3D effects and this experience brings them altogether skillfully. This attraction is not a ride but a 4D movie that incorporates scenes and songs from different Disney films. It is set up a lot like Fantasia, the 1940 Disney movie.

4D means that during the attraction you may experience a blast of air, a spurt of water, and other practical effects as things happen on screen, this makes Mickey's Philharmagic a very immersive experience. Though it is a cartoon, the effects make it feel like you are there with Donald, trying to get back to the orchestra.

The show is silly but entertaining and I absolutely love it. I will always recommend this one to anyone going to Disney World.

Top 5 Attractions at Magic Kingdom You Can't Miss - Families with Young Children

Number 5: The Barnstormer

The Barnstormer is a small rollercoaster that goes surprisingly fast. If your smaller kids are not sure if they want to try the bigger coasters in the park, they should try the Barnstormer first. It is about 1 minute and 30 seconds long, with a lot of that time being taken up by the lift hill. It may be short, but it can pack a thrill.

Number 4: The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh

The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh is a dark ride where you ride in a honey pot through a blustery day in Pooh and friends lives. There are some Heffalumps and Woozles, which could be a little scary for smaller kids, but its not too bad and they have a fun song that goes with them

The queue for this ride has interactive elements, like guiding bees through an area, and wiping honey off a wall to see what is underneath it. Kids tend to love these elements because they keep them busy when lines are long.

Number 3: Under the Sea - Journey of the Little Mermaid

Under the Sea - Journey of the Little Mermaid is a dark ride through the story of the Little Mermaid. The ride is an omni-mover, meaning the ride vehicles don't stop moving unless there is an accommodation needed. This gives the ride higher capacity and shorter lines.

The ride travels through many scenes and has many of the movies best songs in it. Just a note, Ursula is in the ride in a pretty big way and can easily scare small kids, so prepare them for her.

Number 2: The Magic Carpets of Aladdin

The Magic Carpets of Aladdin is a spinner style attraction. The ride vehicles are magic carpets, and there are controls in the vehicles that let the riders move up and down as well as side to side. There is also a spitting camel that you need to watch out for. If your kids like spinning, this one is a good option.

Number 1: Dumbo the Flying Elephant

Dumbo the Flying Elephant is the original spinner ride in Disney World. The ride vehicles are different color Dumbo and they have controls to move the elephant higher or lower. There are two identical rides next to each other because a lot of people are interested in this ride.

The queue area is a playground for kids and parents are given a buzzer that goes off when its there turn to get in line for the ride. The playground area is wonderful and keeps kids entertained while adults can relax.

Dumbo is wonderful choice when trying to decide what rides your kids will enjoy.
